The 2021 T20 World Cup is undoubtedly one of the most much-awaited cricket events of this year. The upcoming season marks the 7th edition of the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup and will be watched by cricket lovers and fans all across the world. The current T20 World Cup will commence from October 18 and will conclude on November 14, 2021. A total of 16 teams will participate in the esteemed tournament this time of which Papua New Guinea is a new entrant. The 2021 T20 World Cup will be hosted by India. The 2016 T20 World Cup winner, West Indies, is the defending champion of the coming 2021 championship.
T20 World Cup 2021 Format
The T20 World Cup format is the same as that of the previous editions. The tournament will commence with Group Stage matches that will be played by Group A and Group B. It will be followed by Super 12 Group where two top teams from Group A and Group B each will play against the 10 teams that have directly qualified for the Super 12 stage. The top 4 teams from Super 12 will compete against each other in the Knockout stage that comprises of two semi-finals and the final match.
T20 World Cup Teams
The upcoming T20 World Cup 2021 comprises of 16 teams. Among the T20 World Cup teams, top 10 are ICC Full Members and they have directly qualified for T20 World Cup championship. Of these, top 8 (barring Bangladesh and Sri Lanka) have directly qualified for Super 12 stage of the championship and they won’t have to play group stage matches. As Bangladesh and Sri Lanka could not directly qualify for Super 12, they would have to start the World Cup with group stage matches.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be joined by 6 teams that had qualified for the Twenty20 World Cup 2021 through 2019 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier. These 6 teams are:
As mentioned previously, Papua New Guinea is a new entrant in T20 World Cup and it’s their first ever World Cup. In fact, it was the very first squad to qualify for the upcoming T20 World Cup among these 6 teams. The second name to qualify was Ireland and Oman was the last name.

T20 World Cup 2021 Schedule
The T20 World Cup 2021 schedule was announced by ICC on January 29, 2019. The tournament will start on October 18 with two Group A matches. The first match will be between Sri Lanka and Ireland at 8:30 A.M. The second match is scheduled between Papua New Guinea and Oman and it will be hosted at 1:30 p.m. Both the matches will be held at Simonds Stadium, Geelong.
The first match of Super 12 stage will be held between the host country Australia and 2nd T20 World Cup winner Pakistan. The match is scheduled for October 24, 2021 (1:30 P.M.) and will be hosted at Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney. The two semi-finals of T20 World 2021 are scheduled for November 11 and 12, respectively. The first semi-final will start from 1:30 P.M. and will be held at Sydney Cricket Ground, Sydney. The second semi-final will begin from 2:00 P.M. and will be hosted at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide. The T20 World Cup final is to be held on November 15, from 1:30 P.M., at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne.
T20 World Cup 2021 Matches
The 2021 T20 World Cup will cover 45 matches in total. There will be 12 matches in the group stage. The Super 12 round will include 30 matches. The Knockout stage will include two semi-finals and one final match.
