Not long ago Bangladesh was called a minnow by the cricket fraternity however recent performance has indicated that the team is ready for the big stage. It has lots of talented players that can create problems for the champion teams. The performance against established teams such as Pakistan, India and South Africa Indicate that Bangladesh has finally arrived on the world stage and is ready to make the mark in the upcoming T20 world cup.
Participation: Bangladesh has participated 8 times in the championship right from 2007 to 2022.
Performance of Bangladesh Team in T20 World Cup
In the 2007 championship, Bangladesh was placed in the group A along with South Africa and West Indies. It lost against South Africa by 8 wickets but won against West Indies by 6 wickets. In the super 8 stage, Bangladesh lost all 3 games against formidable teams such as Pakistan, Australia and Sri Lanka.
In the next edition of 2009, Bangladesh was placed with Ireland and India in the group A. The team lost both matches by 6 wickets and 25 runs respectively.
In 2010 in West Indies, Bangladesh was placed in one of the toughest group along with Pakistan and Australia. It lost both matches and couldn’t progress to the next stage.
The 2012 tournament in Sri Lanka saw Bangladesh alongside Pakistan and New Zealand. Against Kiwis Bangladesh lost by 59 runs while Pakistan handed 8 wickets defeat.
In 2014 Bangladesh had to play qualifying round where it defeated Afghanistan by 9 wickets and Nepal by 8 wickets while lost to Hong Kong narrowly by 2 wickets. The team ended at the top of the table due to better run rate however it failed to win even a single match in the super 10 stage. In terms of performance 2014 didn’t turn out to be a miracle cup for Bangladesh.
In the last edition of T20 world cup 2016, Bangladesh did not performed well in their main league matches and didn't win even a single match in their group and remain winless in the tournament.
With the recent Bangladesh team performance, they can do really well in the upcoming T20 world cup 2022.
