The ICC FTP is a schedule of International cricket matches set by ICC for all the international cricket teams. The main objective of ICC FTP is that each team will have a match against each other at least once at home and once away over a period of ten years. If one country does not want to travel to another country for matches due to security purposes then matches can be scheduled at a neutral venue by mutual agreement of both cricketing boards. ICC can also help them find such a venue and carry out their cricket schedule.
FTP is very important for a systematically organised schedule for International cricket so that no two big tournaments clash with each other. It gives opportunities to players to play both international and domestic league tournaments and also provide clarity around all bilateral series. On June 2018, ICC announced the FTP starting from June 2018 to 2023.
The new FTP will be announced in the year 2023 by ICC for the next five years. International Cricket Council is responsible for scheduling FTP and for its announcement over a regular interval of time. It is mandatory to follow FTP by all teams as FTP is announced by ICC and it is must for each cricket board to follow the schedule organised by ICC. If there is valid reason like a deadly pandemic or any other reason in which series is not possible to happen then it is allowable to not follow FTP and reschedule the matches with ICC permission. For example, due to Corona Virus pandemic cricket was off the field and the series and tournaments are postponed by all boards and ICC. FTP also helps teams to prepare for big ICC events by playing the same format with rival teams before the tournament.FTP helps viewers to predict the winner in big tournaments where all big teams compete against each other to win the title.
