Sri Lanka vs Pakistan ODI Series 2014 Schedule


In the Pakistan’s tour of Sri Lanka after losing the test series the Pakistan cricket team looked to square it in the One Day series. The Cool n Cool ODI series had three matches in it to be played between the Sri Lankan cricket team and the Pakistan cricket team. The first two matches were to be played at the Hambantota and the last match was to be played at the Dambulla.

The series promised to be a good one as both the teams had a good balance. Both have a good number of all-rounders who can come handy in any match while the experience stars like Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan were a gift to any team in the world. The home side was in a good form as the young players were shaping good and contributing in every victory.  This series was telecasted live in the ten sports network in the sub-continent region.

In the 1st match rain played an important part in the game as it interrupted the play and resulted into reduction of 5 overs per side. In this match the home team were forced to bat as the visitors winning the toss decided to field first. Batting first the home team were able to score 275 runs after losing 7 wickets in 45 overs. Angelo Mathews was the star batsman as he scored 89 runs while Mahela Jayawardene guided his team by scoring 69 runs. Wahab Riaz in this match ended up taking 3 wickets. The Pakistan batsmen found it hard at time and were 106/5. It was then Fawad Alam and Sohaib Maqsood who came into bat and guided their team to a comfortable victory in the 1st match.

In the 2nd match Sri Lanka after winning the toss decided to bat first. It was yet again the partnership of Mahela Jayawardene and Angelo Mathews who saved the day for the home side. Jayawardene played an innings of 67 runs while Mathews scored 93 runs. A late show by Thisara Perera helped the team reach a total of 310. Perera scored 65 runs in his innings. Wahab Riaz took 4 wickets in the match. The Pakistan’s top order batsmen Ahmed Shehzad and Mohammad Hafeez gave their team a good start as both scored 56 and 62 respectively. Apart from them no other player stood tall enough to guide their team to a victory to seal the series win. The Sri Lankan bowlers were successful in defending the total and hence bowled the visitors at a score of 233. Thisara Perera took 3 wickets in the match.

The 3rd and the final match was the series decider as both the team managed to win 1 game each before this. The Pakistan team decided to bat first and faced a debacle in the match. Misbah-ul Haq and Fawad Alam managed to score 18 and 38 runs respectively and was the highest scorer for the team. The whole team managed to score only 102 runs before getting all-out in 33rd over of the game. The rain interruption during the 1st innings caused the match. Thisara Perera took 4 wickets in the match to set his team a victory. Tillakaratne Dilshan managed to score a fifty in the match guiding his team to a victory in just 18.2 overs. With this win the team managed to win the series 2-1. Perera was named as the man of the series for his all-round performance.
