Sri Lankan bowlers helped the home side win the match and the series - The 3rd and the final match of Sri Lanka and Pakistan One Day series were played in the Rangiri Dambulla International stadium. Before this match the series was standing at a draw as Pakistan won the 1st match while the 2nd match was won by the home side. This was a series decider and Pakistan after winning the toss decided to bat first. This decision was proved to be a wrong one as the batsmendidn’t apply themselves well. The 1st wicket fell in the 3rd over and it was just a start of the fall of wickets. Next 2 wickets of the visiting team felt in the 8th over of the game and the visitors found themselves at a score of 14/3. Misbah-ul-Haq and Fawad Alam managed to stitch a small partnership of only 33 runs taking their team to a score of 47 in 15.4 balls. The very next ball of the game Misbah-ul-Haq lost his wicket. This wicket opened the gates for the Home team and they took all benefits of the opportunity. The team reached a score of 81/8 in 26 overs. At this moment the rain interrupted play. After rains went away the match was reduced to 48 overs. As the play resumed the remaining 2 wickets fell quickly. Pakistan team in the final ODI managed to score 102 runs in the 1st innings. Thisara Perera took 4 wickets in the match and put his side in a match winning position.

According to the D/L method the new target for the home side was 101 runs to be achieved in 48 overs. Tillakaratne Dilshan today in this low scoring match scored 50 runs and remained not out throughout the innings. He played as the anchor in the innings and guided his win to a victory while chasing the small total. Mahela Jayawardene scored 26 runs as the Sri Lankan team won the match by 7 wickets quite easily. With this win the home side also won the series 2-1. Thisara Perera was named as the man of the match for his wonderful bowling performance.
