Sri Lanka vs Pakistan Test Series 2014 Schedule


Pakistan tour of Sri Lanka started off with a 2 match test series. This was the last series that Mahela Jayawardene was playing for his team and hence the team were looking for a perfect suited gift for his farewell. On the other hand the Pakistan was all set to get some lost glory back with a test victory.

The 1st test match was played in the famous stadium of Galle. This was one of the best stadium of the island country covered with water body on three sides make this ground one of the best stadiums. The Pakistan side won the toss and decided to bat first in the match. In the 1st innings the team showed signs of falling apart as the top order fell easily. It was the experience of Younis Khan that came into help saving the day for the visitors. He along with Asad Shafiq saved the 1st innings for the team as Younis scored 177 runs and Shafiq scored 75 runs. Sarfaraz Ahmed scored 55 runs and Abdur Rehman scored 50 runs to take their team to a 1st innings total of 451. Dilruwan Perera took 5 wickets while Rangana Herath took 3 wickets. The Sri Lankan batsmen came back strongly in the match scoring 533 runs in the 1st innings. Kumar Sangakkara scored 221 runs while Angelo Mathews scored 91 runs. Mahela Jayawardene scored 59 runs in his last series 1st test match. Saeed Ajmal took 5 wickets in the innings.

In the second innings the home side got a great advantage as they took some real quick wickets. The visitors fell apart and ended their innings at 180 runs. Sarfraz Ahmed was the top scorer of the innings scoring 52 runs. Rangana Herath was the star of the show as he took 6 wickets in the innings to set up a great victory for the team. The target of 99 runs was chased down by Sri Lanka easily and hence they went 1-0 up in the 2 match series.

The 2nd test was played at the SSC stadium situated in Colombo. Sri Lanka this time won the toss and decided to bat first. In the 1st innings Upul Tharanga stole the show with his bat scoring 92 runs. Despite of a good start provided by the openers the home team fell apart in the 1st innings as the middle order failed to give a good support. The team scored 320 runs in the 1st innings. Junaid Khan took 5 wickets in the innings. Sarfaraz Ahmed was yet again the star of the show for Pakistan as he scored 103 runs in the 1st innings to take his team to a score of 332 in the 1st innings. Rangana Herath was yet again the star bowler as he took 9 wickets in the innings.

The Sri Lankan team tried to score some quick runs in order to get the required advantage in the match. While looking to score some quick runs the team managed to score 282 runs. Mahela Jayawardene managed to score 54 runs in his last innings while Kumar Sangakkara was the top scorer for the home side scoring 59 runs. 271 was the target set for Pakistan to level the series but they failed miserably. Herath took 5 wickets in the innings and bowled the visitors at 165 runs. Hence Sri Lanka won the series by 2-0 and Herath was awarded the man of the series award for perfect bowling.
