Tillakaratne Dilshan is a Sri Lankan player. A right-handed aggressive batsman born in 1976 and has given his contribution in many games for his side. He had also led Sri Lanka team.

Dilshan is basically known for a stroke ‘dilscoop’ in which the ball goes to the boundary after passing over the wicketkeeper’s head. Apart from batting, he is also talented in bowling department. He is a right-arm off spinner.

Dilshan made his Test debut and ODI debut in the same year against the same team. He played his first Test match in 1999 against Zimbabwe. He has played 90 Test games and has added around 5500 runs in his score card with an average of 41 including 16 centuries and 33 half centuries. His top score in Test format is off 193 runs that he scored in 2011 against English team.

He has also showed his talent with the ball with 39 dismissals at an average of 44. In Dilshan’s captaincy, Sri Lanka won their first Test game against South Africa in 2011 but he didn’t led his side any more after losing the Test series and subsequent ODI series against the same team in the same tour. He gave his contribution for Sri Lanka in ODI format for the first time in 1999 against Zimbabwe. His performance with the bat is well enough as he has scored more than 7000 runs in 260 ODI games with an average of 37 which also includes 16 tons and 29 fifties.

He smashed a scintillating knock of 160(not out) in 2012 against India and this figure was set as his best score in ODI format. when it comes to bowling domain, he has taken nearly 70 wickets with an average of 48.

When it comes to records, Dilshan holds the record of highest run scorer in 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup with 500 runs including 2 tons and 2 fifties. He also won the Man of the Series award in 2009 ICC World T20 Cup. In 2009, Dilshan played a knock of 96 off just 57 deliveries against West Indies in the semi final of ICC World T20 and was declared Player of the year in T20 format by ICC.
