Born on 30th January 1985, Hewa Kaluhalamullage Suraj Randiv Kaluhalamulla is also known as Suraj Randiv. Suraj is essentially a right-arm offbreak bowler and also a right hand batsman. He stands at a towering 6 ft height and has a sibling MM Rasmijinan. His basic genre is offbreak along with topspinner and arm ball.

Career Highlights:
  • Played for Sri Lankan under-19 team
  • Represented his country in under-23 tournament of 2003-2004 and picked up 23 wickets in 4 matches
  • List A debut against Glamorgan at Cardiff in July 2004. He represented Sri Lanka A and took 2 wickets in 5 overs
  • First Class debut in the year 2004
  • ODI debut against India on 18th December 2009 at Nagpur. Sri Lanka won the match by 3 wickets.
  • His first Test match was also vs. India at Colombo on July 26th 2010. He bowled 73 overs and picked 2 wickets and the match was a draw.
  • Suraj played his first T20I against Zimbabwe on May 3rd 2010 at Providence.

Suraj initially was a fast bowler and later started spinning the balls. He was identified by Marvan Atapattu, who was the man behind getting Suraj to play for the Sinhalese Sports Club. Randiv has played in the IPL for Chennai Super Kings initially. He has also played for Bloomfield Cricket and Athletic Club, Nondescripts Cricket Club, Sinhalese Sports Club, Kandurata Maroons, Ruhuna and Kandurata.

Randiv was in the news in August 2010. When India was one run away from victory and Virender Sehwag at 99, Randiv played a no ball, that resulted in India’s victory but Sehwag’s incomplete century. Sri Lankan Cricket banned him from one match after this gig and his match fees was docked. Suraj apologized to Sehwag for this tactic.

Suraj has been useful to the team in the lower order and is a diligent fielder as well.
