A solid all round performance leads to a victory for team India - After the cancellation of the India and West Indies tour it was Sri Lanka who visited India for playing a 5 match ODI series. It was a series that was being fought between world cup winners of 50 overs and T20 world champions. The 1st ODI of the series was played at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. After winning the toss the visitors decided to field first.

Batting first team India managed to get a good solid start in the innings. Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan together started of fairly slow. Later in the innings they gained momentum and together stitched a partnership of 231 runs for the 1st wicket. Rahane dominated the innings scoring 111 runs and was the aggressor in the first part of this innings. On the other hand Dhawan played a knock of 113 runs and was the aggressor in the later stage of his innings. The 1st wicket fell in the 35th over of the game which brought in Suresh Raina. The stage was all set for him and he played a marvellous innings of 52 runs in 36 balls. This was the final nail in the coffin for Sri Lanka as India cruised to a score of 363 runs in the end of 50 overs. Despite some bad bowling Suraj Randiv managed to take 3 wickets.

To chase a big target in a match it was essential for the visitors to have a good performance from the top order batsmen. They failed in doing so as wickets kept falling in a regular interval. Mahela Jayawardene managed to score 43 runs and he was the top scoring batsman from the team on this day. In just 130 runs the visitors lost 5 of their wickets and thus the remaining task was a great ask from the team. Ishant Sharma was the pick of the bowler as he took 4 wickets in the game to give his team an enthralling victory as the Sri Lankans were bowled out for 194 only. Ajinkya Rahane was named the man of the match for his wonderful batting performance. India now leads the 5 match Micromax ODI series by 1-0.
