AB de Villiers and Q de Kock took their team to a series victory against Sri Lanka - Sri Lanka and South Africa met for the third and the last time in the One Day International. The last ODI of the series was played in the Mahindra Rajapaksa International cricket stadium in Hambantota. Before this game the series was on level as both the teams managed to win 1 game each. In 3rd ODI South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first. The visitors got a great start as the openers scored a 100 run partnership. Hashim Amla after scoring 48 runs lost his wicket. Soon Jacques Kallis too after scoring 4 runs lost his wicket leaving his team to a score of 132/2 in 25.3 overs. AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock made it a run fest. Kock scored 128 runs and got out in the 41st over. De Villiers on the other hand scored 108 runs in just 71 balls. It was these two players who managed to take their team to a score of 339. Rangana Herath was the top bowler in the innings as he took 2 wickets giving away only 48 runs in his 10 overs.

The Sri Lankan chase in the third ODI was a story of unsuccessful starts. The top three batsman of the team got start and all the three played a 30 run innings but failed to make it big. The team managed to reach a score of 113 in just 13 overs. The journey to 113 saw the fall of top 3 batsmen which included wicket of Kumar Sangakkara and Tillakaratne Dilshan. The very next over saw the fall of Mahela Jayawardene. It was only Angelo Mathews who was successful with the bat. He scored 58 runs but all his effort went in vain. The team managed to score only 257 thus losing the match by 82 runs. Ryan McLaren was the top bowler yet again for the team who took 3 wickets. AB de Villiers won the man of the match award for his lovely innings. With this win South African won the series by 2-1.
