Hashim Amla is one of the most promising batsmen of South African cricket team. He is a right-hand batsman who plays at the top order and also bowls right-arm medium pace occasionally. In ODIs he has opened the innings in several matches, while his batting position is at Number 3 in the international Test matches played by South Africa. He is also known as Hash among his teammates and other players of the cricket world. This 31-year old batsman made his Test debut in November 2004 against India. His debut in the limited over format came in the year 2008 against Bangladesh and has been a part of the team on a regular basis.

In 2012, he became the first cricketer of South Africa to have scored a triple century in Test with his 311 not out against the English side.
He became the fastest player to score 3,000 and 4,000 runs in the ODIs breaking the previous record held by Sir Vivian Richards.
