IPL 2020 Season started with the match between CSK and MI on 19 Sept 2020 at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium. Due to Corona guidelines, the match was played with an empty stadium. CSK was lead by MS Dhoni while MI was lead by Rohit Sharma. CSK had won the toss and elected to field.

From Mumbai Indians Side Rohit Sharma and Quinto de Cock opened the inning, but soon the HITMAN Rohit got out to Chawla. However de Cock tried to balance the inning with other batsmen, but the fall of wickets continued. Saurabh Tiwary and Hardik Pandya tried to have a better partnership but could not sustain against impressive bowling attack from CSK. From MI S Tiwary made the most 42 runs while de Cock made 33 runs. No other batsman could stand on the crease for a long time. From CSK, Ngidi was the most effective bowler. He got 3 important wickets while D Chahar and R Jadeja also got 2 wickets each. In 20 overs MI was able to make 162 runs for 9 wickets.

CSK needed to have 163 runs to win. M Vijay and S Watson opened the inning of Chennai Super Kings, and in the first over only it has to bear a huge jolt when S Watson was given out on a beautiful delivery of T Boult. However, after falling of the second wicket in the form of M Vijay, A Rayudu and DuPlesis tried to balance the inning and played steadily to reach close to the target. They made a good partnership of 115 runs from 84 balls. A Rayudu played a brilliant inning of 71 runs in 48 runs and got out by R Chahar. After the fall of the wicket of A Rayudu, R Jadeja and Du Plessis tried to score well, but Jadeja also got out early. S Curran batted well after falling of wicket of Jadeja but got out early. However, on one end, du Plessis kept the scoreboard moving and completed his half-century also. He made brilliant 50 in 42 balls. He made 58 runs in 44 balls.   

MS Dhoni joined du Plessis after fall of Curran’s wicket and led the team towards victory in the first match. CSK achieved the target leaving 4 balls spare. CSK won the match by 5 wickets. A Rayudu was declared as the player of the match for his brilliant inning of 71 runs. It was an excellent start of team CSK in IPL 2020. Though MI also had performed well, CSK beat them in almost every section of the game and made the first match on their name.
