Virat powers India to a win in the 5th ODI completing the whitewash - The 5th and the final ODI of the series between India and Sri Lanka was played in JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi. Before this game the Indians had already won all the 4 matches and were looking for a whitewash.

Sri Lanka in this match after winning the toss decided to bat first. The Indians had rested most of their bowlers in the game. The Sri Lankans failed to get a good start and they were reduced to 85/4 in this game. Later the captain Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne built a great partnership to take their team to a respectable score. Mathews scored 139 runs in the game scoring the game in 116 balls. Thirimanne on the other hand scored 52 runs and took the team to total of 286 runs in 50 overs. Dhawal Kulkarni took 3 wickets in the match for the Indian team. Stuart Binny was the most economical bowler on the day giving away runs at 3.5 runs per over.

Mathews was having one of the best days as he dismissed both the Indian openers quite early restricting the Indians at 14/2. Ambati Rayudu and Virat Kohli together etched a great partnership between them and took the team to a total of 150/3 in 28 overs. Robin Uthappa failed to score much of the runs for the team and lost his wicket after scoring 19 runs. This game was for the captains as Virat Kohli paced his innings well and he scored 139 runs to take his team cross the required target. Indians were able to score 288 runs in 48.4 over with Kohli remaining not out after scoring 139 runs. With this win India completed the whitewash and won the series 5-0. Angelo Mathews was named as the man of the match for his all-round show.
