West Indies thrash India in the opener of the series - After an exciting champions league the Indian Cricket team came down in their famous blue to take on the challenge from West Indies for an ODI series. The 1st match of the series was played at Kochi and after winning the toss the India chose to field first. The visitors got a good start as Dwayne Smith scored 46 runs taking the team to a score of 98/2 in 17.2 overs. Darren Bravo scored 28 runs in 45 balls and lost his wicket in the 23rd over of the match leaving his team to a score of 120/3. Marlon Samuels came in to bat at 2nd down and changed the face of the game. He along with Denesh Ramdin took the team to a score of 285 runs. Ramdin after scoring 61 runs lost his wicket but Samuels carried on the good work and scored 126 runs. He took his team to the score of 321 runs. Mohammad Shami took 4 wickets in the match and was the best bowler for the team.

With the strong batting line up the target looked to be quite achievable for the team. Ajinkya Rahane and Shikhar Dhawan gave the team a good start of 49 runs. In the 9th over of the match the team lost their 1st wicket in the form of Rahane who scored 24 runs. Virat Kohli lost the wicket cheaply scoring only 2 runs. The middle order of the team failed to provide a result and hence the problems were created for the team. The Indians were reduced to 5-114 runs only in a big chase. Dhawan scored 68 runs in his innings. Apart from him Ravindra Jadeja scored 33 runs while rest of the team failed to score big and was bowled out for 197 runs. Indians lost the match by 124 runs.

Marlon Samuels was named as the man of the match for his batting performance. The visitors now lead the 5 match series by 1-0.
