Denesh Ramdin is a Trinidadian player who plays for West Indies. A right handed batsman generally does wicket keeping for his side. He has played first class cricket for Trinidad and Tobago and was declared as skipper of the same in 2011. Under his leadership, Trinidad & Tobago won the Caribbean Twenty20 held in January 2012. Ramdin began his career as a fast bowler but soon he chose the position of wicket keeper. Ramdin made his Test debut in 2005 when he played against Sri Lanka. He has played 50 games and has added around 2000 runs in his score card with an average of 27. His score card also includes 3 tons and 10 fifties. Behind the stumps also he has performed well so far. He has taken 170 catches and has got success in doing stumping thrice. Ramdin scored his maiden Test century against England in the fourth Test at Barbados in 2009, going on to score 166 in a drawn match and this figure is the second highest score by West Indian wicket keeper in Test format. Denesh played ODI match for the first time in the same year in which he made his Test debut against India. He has given his contribution in nearly 100 games and has scored seldom 1200 runs with an average of 20 including only 3 half centuries. He has taken 125 catches behind the stumps and has done 6 stumpings. He scored his best score of 96 against India and this score has been the highest score by West Indian keeper in ODI format so far. Ramdin was a member of West Indies’s squad in 2007 World Cup. He was imposed fine in ICC Champions Trophy 2013 when he claimed a catch from batsman Misbah-ul-Haq. However television replays showed that the ball was not caught, and the matter was referred to the match referee. Ramdin was fined his full match fee and suspended for two matches. There has always been a competition between Ramdin and Carlton Baugh for the position of wicket keeper. But neither of the player have scored enough runs to secure the position. Between May 2007 and May 2012, West Indian wicket-keepers scored 1,332 runs from 45 Tests the batting average of 18.76 is the lowest amongst all ten Test teams in this period, nearly 10 runs behind the next lowest.
