Five days of competitive cricket ends up in a draw - The first test match of the Investec test series between England and India was played at Trent Bridge. Visitors after winning the toss decided to bat first.

Day 1 saw Indian team batting line up experience some highs and lows. The first session of the day belonged to team India. At lunch on first day the visitors managed to score 106 runs with the loss of only 1 wicket. It was the ideal start that a team can have in the 1st session of a 1st test match as a visitor. The only wicket to fall was of Shikhar Dhawan as he got out scoring only 12 runs. The second session of the game saw a great comeback from the home side. They took 2 quick wickets but in the end it was the captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Murali Vijay who saved the day for the team. At the end of the 1st day the team managed to comeback in the test by reaching a total of 259/4. Vijay after scoring 146 runs lost his wicket. The day was evenly balanced one between the two teams.

Day 2 started off with India dominating the proceedings again. At lunch India reached a score of 342/5. Post lunch the home side made yet another comeback in the match taking 4 quick wickets which included the wicket of Indian captain Dhoni. The home side seemed to have come to end of the Indian innings but the number 10th and 11th batsmen played a vital role in the game. Both the players fought bravely and made a 100 run partnership. They took their team total to a massive 457 runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammad Shami both scored 50 runs. James Anderson was the top bowler for the home team taking 3 wickets. The day ended up with the home side scoring 43 runs for the loss of 1 wicket. They lost the all-important wicket of Alastair Cook.

Day 3 of the match was yet another exciting day for the cricket lovers. Gary Ballance and Sam Robson provided their team a good start to the innings. They both had a 125 runs stand between them. Robson scored 59 and Ballance scored 71 runs in the 1st innings. Post lunch team India struck quickly to leave the home side in a poor condition. The home side collapsed form 174/4 to 205/7. Later it was Stuart Broad and Joe Root who controlled the downfall. Broad scored 47 runs before losing his wicket. The match saw yet another 10th wicket partnership between Root and James Anderson. England ended the day at 352/9 with Root on 78 and Anderson on 23.

Day 4 was a day when the visitors were looking for that last wicket to take a good lead in the 2nd innings. All the plans failed as the last wicket partnership was a record partnership in the world cricket. Root scored 154 runs and Anderson scored a massive 81 runs before giving his wicket away. Bhuvneshwar Kumar managed to take 5 wickets in the innings.

The Day 4 and 5 saw Indian team bat the match to a draw. On the fifth day there was a moment of tension for the visitors when they lost some quick wickets. It was because of the wet and over cast condition that brought some life in the match. But the debutant Stuart Binny and Ravindra Jadeja controlled the pressure well. Later Bhuvneshwar Kumar joined in to score yet another half century in the match. Binny in his debut match played a vital 78 run innings. Moeen Ali was the best bowler in the second innings for home team taking 3 wickets. James Anderson was named as the man of the match for his all-round show in the game.
