Root’s test debut was exemplified by the qualities that attracted the coach from the early age. He had a very long debut. He displayed patience which was demanded by the situation of the game and he did that nicely. Root has never been a aggressive striker and he has worked through his ranks and not particularly athletic. He got a systematic approach and stopped the team England from loosing wickets in the match and tuned the game to its highest level. Precision batsman chooses the shots well before he takes them. His patience and stubbornness has got him a good place in the team. Root made his mark when he was in the under 19 team in the squad for Bangladesh. Then he got into contract with Yorkshire and narrowly missed the chance of crossing 1000 runs in the same season. Back in England each batsman would struggle in taking rainy summer 2012 but he demonstrated how to play in those conditions when he crossed 222 runs against Hampshire at west end. This performance earned him the call up for the senior squad for tour of India.
