After the completion of league matches, it was the first match of playoff round where MI had clashed with DC. From Delhi Capitals Shreyas Iyer led the team while Mumbai Indians was captained by Rohit Sharma. The match was played on 5th October 2020 at Dubai International Stadium. For both teams, it was an important match to have a step further towards winning of the tournament. DC won the toss and chose to field first. 

From MI opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock initiated the game but it was not a good beginning as in the 2nd over only Rohit Sharma got out without scoring any run. However, de Kock was playing a great inning, and he was joined by Suryakumar Yadav. They made a partnership of 62 runs and managed to score well. In the 8th over de Kock got out at an individual score of 40 runs. Yadav was joined by Ishan Kishan. In the 12th over Yadav got out immediately after completing his half-century which again placed the team in trouble. Kishan was joined by Pollard who got out without opening account.  Krunal Pandya came to bat but could not sustain for long and got out in the 17th over. Hardik Pandya joined Kishan, and they both played grand strokes which placed MI in a commanding position. In the last over Kishan completed his half-century. He made not out 51 runs in 30 balls while Hardik Pandya made not out 37 runs in 14 balls. At the end of 20 overs, MI could make 200 runs at a loss of 5 wickets. From DC Ravichandran Ashwin was the most successful bowler with 3 wickets. Hence to win, DC needed 201 runs in 20 overs.

From DC, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan came to bat, but both of them failed to give a good start to the team. In the 1st over Shaw got out on 0 and Ajinkya Rahane came to bat. In the same over Rahane also got out without scoring any run. In the second over, Dhawan also got out, and hence DC was in deep trouble. Shreya Iyer and Marcus Stoinis tried to play tactically, but Iyer got out in the 4th over at an individual score of 12 runs. Rishabh Pant also got out in 8th over after making 3 runs. However, on one end Stoinis kept on batting well and completed his half-century. In 16th over with the loss of wicket of Stonis the hope of DC to win the game ended. However, Axar Patel tried to hit some big shots and made 42 runs, but at the end of 20 overs, DC could make 143 runs and lost the match by 57 runs. From MI Jasprit Bumrah was the most successful bowler with 4 wickets. He was declared the player of the match.
