The Indian team clashed with England in the 5 matches T20I series 2021 after getting a big win in the Test series. The series started with the 1st T20I at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 12 March 2021. In the first match, England gave the Indian team a chance to bat first after winning the toss. Indian batsmen stumbled in front of England's fast bowlers and could not do anything special. The top order and middle order were demolished by England pacers and India could make only 124 runs, thanks to Shreyas Iyer for 67 runs. Jofra Archer was fabulous with the ball and took 3 wickets. The target of 125 runs was not big for England’s power hitter and they achieved it very easily in 15.3 overs only at the loss of 2 wickets only. Jason Roy contributed 49 runs but stayed away from completing his fifty by one run. England started the series with a victory by 8 wickets and Jofra Archer was named Man of the Match.
In the second T20I, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav made their debut in T20I for India in place of Axar, and Dhawan. Virat Kohli decided to chase after winning the toss. Indian bowlers bowled really well and restricted England batsmen to 164. England batters could not understand the swings and variations otherwise could have added some more runs. Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur took 2 wickets each in the match. India started the chase with KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan as opening pair but Rahul was dismissed very soon. Ishan Kishan was phenomenal and struck fifty in his debut. The rest of the work was completed by the captain, Virat Kohli, he struck 73 runs. India won the 2nd T20I by 7 wickets and Ishan Kishan got the Man of the Match award in his first T20 International. The series was level by 1-1.
In the 3rd T20I, Rohit Sharma came in and Suryakumar Yadav was out. On the other hand, England took back Mark Wood in place of Tom Curran. Morgan was playing his 100th T20I and decided to field first after winning the toss. India anyhow managed to set a defending total of 156 runs because its top order was completely pulled down by England bowlers and they were 24 for 3. Mark Wood bowled well and got 3 wickets. England needed 157 runs and they achieved it like a champion. Jos Buttler played an incredible match-winning inning of unbeaten 83 runs that helped England to get the target easily in 18.2 overs only. England won the 3rd T20I by 8 wickets and Jos Buttler was named Man of the Match.
The 4th T20I was the Do or Die match for India. England again invited India to bat first after winning the toss and the Indian team added 185 runs on the scoreboard. Suryakumar Yadav who did not bat in his debut T20I made a much-needed fifty. Jofra Archer was excellent with 33-4. England needed 186 runs to win the match and series but Shardul Thakur, Pandya, and Chahar did not allow them and restricted English batsmen at 177 runs. India won the 4th T20I by 8 runs and once again series level by 2-2. Suryakumar Yadav was the Man of the Match.
In the 5th T20I, India again lost the toss and came out with the bat. Rohit Sharma opened with Virat Kohli and played very well. Both had added 94 runs for the 1st wicket that helped India to score 224 runs. England started well in spite of losing the first wicket very early. They started struggling after losing Jos Buttler and could not stand back. England could make 188 runs and lost the match by 36 runs and series too.
India won the 5th T20I by 36 runs and also the captain, Virat Kohli collected the Trophy of Ind vs Eng series 2021. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was named Man of the Match. Virat Kohli was the Man of the Series.
Virat Kohli was the top scorer with 231 runs in the 5 T20I matches series and Shardul Thakur was the most successful bowler with 8 wickets.
