On 23rd June, the final match of ICC Champions Trophy 2013was played between India and the host England in Birmingham. India reached the final by defeating Sri Lanka in the semi-final and England defeated South Africa. The Edgbaston cricket ground in Birmingham had filled up with around 25,000 cricket fans to watch the final of ICC Champions Trophy 2013. It was a day of Sunday and like a fun day for all cricket fans, especially Indians but the rain had ruined everything. The match was delayed due to rain and it started late. The final match is also reduced to 20 overs per innings and all the 20-20 format rules were applied.

England won the toss and asked India to bat first. It was not a good start for India because India had lost his first wicket, Rohit Sharma, only at a score of 19. Rohit Sharma made only 9 runs and clean bold by bowler S Board. Then Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli brought the score to the 50 runs. Then, a bowl of R Bopara took the edge of Shikhar Dhawan bat and he was caught behind by J Tredwell. India lost its 2nd wicket at the score of 50 runs.

Next batsman, Karthik, Raina, and Dhoni could not do much and lost their r wicket. India had lost 5 wickets at the score of just 66 runs. Then, Ravindra Jadeja came into the ground and he made a good partnership with Virat Kohli and reached India to a fighting score of 129 runs. Virat Kohli made 43 runs off 34 balls and Jadeja made 33 runs off just 25 balls.

Ravi Bopara was the successful bowler in that match and took the three important Indian wickets (Dhawan, Raina, and Dhoni). England needed 130 runs to win the final. Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni knew that 130 runs target is not a big target to achieve for England.

The second innings started with the opening batsman, Alastair Cook, and Ian Bell. In the second over of innings, Umesh Yadav successfully took the wicket of Alistair Cook in his 5th bowl, which was a much-needed wicket for Team India. So, it was a good start for Team India and then now, England came under pressure after the loss of their captain. Then J Trott came to the bat but could not do much and stamped by Dhoni at the ball of R Ashwin. He made only 20 runs.

England lost its 4 wickets at the score of just 44 runs and it had become very difficult for England to get the target. But then, Eoin Morgan and Ravi Bopara made a 64 runs partnership for the 4th wickets and bring the England Team in a very good position. Now, Team India was under pressure and they needed to break this partnership anyhow.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni then made a change in the bowling and brought Ishant Sharma back to the attack. It was a masterstroke of Mahendra Singh Dhoni and told Ishant Sharma to bowl short of length to Eoin Morgan. Eoin Morgan could not take the bouncer or Ishant and lost his wicket at the 3rd bowl. On the next ball, Ishant Sharma then took the wicket of Ravi Bopara. Two wickets in the two balls brought back Team Indian into the game. Both the wickets were taken by Ishant Sharma and both the catches were caught by R Ashwin.

At the last over of the innings, England needed 6 runs in the last ball but could not be made and Team India successfully won the final of ICC Champions Trophy, 2013. Ravindra Jadeja was chosen man of the match for his 33 runs off just 25 balls and 2 wickets.
