The 2nd One Day International match of the bilateral series between New Zealand and Bangladesh 2021 was fought at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on 23 March 2021. Saifuddin was included in place of Mahmud in the playing XI. New Zealand won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das came out to the middle to open and Trent Boult got the new ball in hand to deliver the first over.

Bangladesh did not get a good start and lost the first wicket of Liton Das at the score of 4 runs only. He was dismissed for 0 runs by Matt Henry in 1.4 overs. After the dismissal, Soumya Sarkar came out to join the captain and tried to handle the situation. Both the batsmen added 81 runs for the 1st wicket. New Zealand spinner Mitchell Santner took the wicket of Soumya Sarkar in the 20th over. Afterward, Mushfiqur Rahim came out to the middle and Bangladesh completed its first 100 runs in 24.4 overs. Unfortunately, Tamim Iqbal who was playing well was run out by Neesham in the 31st over. He had made 78 runs from 108 balls. Mohammad Mithun at the number 5 position played nicely and contributed crucially 73 runs from just 57 balls that helped the Bangladesh team to reach a defending total of 271 runs. Mitchell Santner got 2 wickets from his 10 overs and gave 51 runs. New Zealand needed 271 runs to win the 2nd ODI of the NZ vs Ban series 2021.

Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls were sent to the crease to chase the target and Mustafizur Rahman got the new ball in hand. New Zealand openers failed to give a good start and both had returned to the pavilion at 43 runs only. New Zealand struggled at the starting and lost 3 wickets at the low score of 53 runs and then Devon Conway and Tom Latham handled the situation very well and built up a partnership of 113 runs. Devon Conway contributed 72 runs from 93 balls and Tom Latham played a captaincy inning of unbeaten 110 runs from 108 balls. Tom Latham struck his 5th century in the ODI that helped New Zealand to achieve the target very comfortably in 48.2 overs. Mustafizur Rahman took 2 wickets but he was very expensive and gave 62 runs from his 8.3 overs. Mahedi Hasan was good with the ball and got 2 wickets.

New Zealand won the 2nd ODI of the series between New Zealand and Bangladesh by 5 wickets and Tom Latham was named Man of the Match for his outstanding match-winning inning.
