The second T20 match of IPL 2020 was between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab on 20 Sep. 20. It was played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. The team of DC was led by Shreyas Iyer, while Kings XI Punjab was captained by K L Rahul. KXIP captain K L Rahul won the toss and chose to field first.
The inning of Delhi Capitals was started by openers P Shaw and S Dhawan, but in the second over, only Dhawan, an important player for the team, got run out by K L Rahul. Dhawan had to return the pavilion without making a single run (duck). In a few minutes, even P Shaw was caught by C Jordan and had to return at the score of 5 only. S Hetmyer could also not play well and got out at the score of 7 only. However, captain S Iyer tried to play a good inning, and he was supported by R Pant. Pant made 31 runs in 29 balls, and Captain Iyer made 39 runs in 32 balls. However, after the partnership of Iyer and Pant, no other batsman could make a good score except M Stoinis. Stoinis played well and made 53 runs in 21 balls. With the help of a good inning from Stoinis, DC was able to make 157 runs in their 20 overs with the loss of 8 wickets. From KXIP, Shami proved as the most effective bowler ho took the most 3 wickets. DC had set a target of 158 runs for KXIP, which seem a challenging task due to slow pitch.
From Kings XI Punjab , K L Rahul and M Agarwal opened the inning. Both openers gave a good start to the team, and at one stage, it was looking an easy victory for KXIP. But captain Rahul got out at the team score of 30. He made 21 runs in 19 balls. However, on the other side M Agarwal played well and kept the scoreboard running. No other batsmen could sustain on the pitch for long, and KXIP also ended with 157 in their 20 overs. K Rabada got the most 2 wickets from DC. The match was declared a tie, and it was the time for super over.
In the first super over of IPL 2020, the DC performed well, and hence dramatically, KXIP lost its first match. DC was declared as the winner, and M Stoinis was declared as the player of the match.
