Kings XI wins to keep their 1st position in Group B - The Oppo Champions League T20 2014 is nearing to the end of the group stages of it. The 17th match of the tournament was played between Kings XI Punjab and Cape Cobras. It was a Group B match but before the start of the match the group already had its 2 teams for semi-finals. This was an opportunity for the home side to ensure that they hold the 1st position while reaching the semis. This match was being played in Mohali. After winning the toss the Kings decided to field first.

Cobras batting first got a good start as the Openers Richard Levi and Hashim Amla scored 60 runs in just 6.3 overs for the first wicket. Amla was the first to go after scoring 40 runs, soon after the team lost the wicket of Omphile Ramela who scored only 12 runs. Levi too didn’t last long as he too lost his wicket after scoring 42 runs. He left the team at a score of 105/3 in 13 overs. Here on the team failed to utilise the start they got as the wickets kept on falling cheaply. Akshar Patel and Anureet Singh ran down the batting order of the cobras. The team was bowled out at a score of 135 in just 18.3 overs.

Kings XI Punjab started off well as Manan Vohra and Virender Sehwag together scored 41 runs for the 1st wicket. Vohra after scoring 23 runs was the first one to leave. Wriddhiman Saha joined Sehwag and they continued to pile on the runs thus creating difficulties for the Cobras. Sehwag after scoring 23 runs left his team at 74/2 in 9.1 overs. Glenn Maxwell joined Saha and scored 23 runs in 19 balls and lost his wicket leaving his team at 108/3 in 14th over. At the end Saha and David Miller together guided the team home. Saha scored 42 runs while Miller scored 16 runs.

With this win the Kings XI Punjab earned 4 points and kept their 1st position in Group B. Richard Levi won the Suzuki Gixxer Power Player award for hitting most number of sixes while Akshar Patel won the Oppo man of the match for his 3/15 while bowling. Both the players won USD 2500 as cash prize.
