New Zealand vs West Indies T20 Series 2020


The 3 match T20 International series was played between New Zealand and West Indies in November of 2020 at New Zealand. New Zealand team completely dominated the series and won the series by 2-0. New Zealand team was captained by Tim Southee, and Kieron Pollard was the captain of West Indies team.

The 1st match of the series was held on November 27, 2020, at Auckland. New Zealand captain Tim Southee won the toss and elected to bowl first. Andre Fletcher and B King opened the inning for West Indies. The match was interrupted by bad weather condition and reduced to 16 overs. Andre Fletcher gave a brilliant start to the team and made 34 runs in just 14 balls. B King and Fletcher made an opening partnership of 58 runs. West Indies was in a good position but then the spell of Lockie Ferguson destroyed the West Indies top order horribly. Lockie Ferguson took 5 wickets in his 4 overs and bowled brilliantly. West Indies was 58/1 and then at a sudden West Indies was 59/5. West Indies lost their 5 wickets in 1 run interval. Captain Kieron Pollard made 84 runs partnership for the 6th wicket with Fabian Allen. Kieron Pollard made most 75 not out in just 37 balls for West Indies. West Indies made 180 runs in 16 overs. It was a big target of 181 runs for New Zealand to win the match.

Martin Guptill and Tim Seifert opened the inning for Kiwis. Guptill got out early on 5 runs to Cottrell. D Conway played a brilliant inning for his team on debut. He made 41 runs in just 29 balls. Jimmy Neesham finished the game for New Zealand. He smashed unbeaten 48 runs in just 24 balls. New Zealand won the match by 5 wickets (D/L method). Lockie Ferguson was selected as player of the match for his 5/21.

The 2nd match of the series was held on November 29, 2020, at Mount Maunganui. West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. Martin Guptill gave speedy start to the team and made 34 runs in 23 balls. D Conway again showed his class in this match and played not out inning of 65 runs in 37 balls. Glenn Phillips came to bat at number 4 position for host and made an unbelievable century. He scored 108 runs in just 51 balls. Glenn Phillips smashed 8 huge sixes in his inning. D Conway and Glenn Phillips made record partnership of 184 runs for 3rd wicket. New Zealand made 238 runs in their 20 overs. It was a big chase for West Indies. The visitors failed to bat in a pressure situation and made only 166 runs in 2nd inning. Kieron Pollard scored most 28 runs. New Zealand won the match by 72 runs and also sealed the series by 2-0. Glenn Phillips was selected as the player of the match for his brilliant ton.

The 3rd or last match of the series was held on November 30, 2020, at Bay Oval. The match was abandoned by bad weather, and the series ended as 2-0 to host. Lockie Ferguson was selected as the player of the series.
