Chigumbura keep Zimbabwe’s Hope Alive In This Edition Of WT20
On the final day of the first round the Zimbabwe were in a must win situation against United Arab Emirates. Zimbabwe won the toss and they selected to field first. UAE a cricket team which showed a good promise in the recently ended Asia cup was against the minnows. While batting the team didn’t get off to a good start as the first two wickets fell at the score of 8. This was further devastating when three wickets were lost in quick successions in the middle order. These three wickets proved to be the turning point of the match. Williams from Zimbabwe took 3 wickets thus restricting UAE for just 116 in allotted 20 overs.
The must win situation of the game proved to take a toll on the Zimbabwe as they lost the top order quite cheaply. At a point the team was struggling at 5/63. It seemed even a target of 116 seemed to be very large. Chigumbura played innings of his lifetime as he scored 53 off 21 balls thus crossing the required run. For his innings Chigumbura was awarded the man of the match award. With this innings Zimbabwe keep their hopes alive for qualifying for the next round of WT20.
