Punjab Kings is one of the original teams in the Indian Premier League that has had been with the championship since its very maiden season in 2008. Akin to Kolkata Knight Riders, the Punjab-based team bears a strong connection with Bollywood film industry as one of its principal owners, Preity Zinta, is a renowned Indian film actress. The major catchment areas of KXIP are Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Haryana which is evident from “K J H P H” letter sequence on the team banner.

PK was embroiled into a legal controversy in 2010 and the IPL committee even announced termination of legal contracts the team along with that of Rajasthan Royals. But the team was reinstated in the League under the orders of Mumbai High Court.

Punjab Kings has always been backed by some of the best players of Indian and international cricket world, such as Yuvraj Singh, Simon Katich, Brett Lee. But, unfortunately, the team could not win any of the IPL trophies ever. However, PK managed to reach the Playoffs twice and was a finalist in 2014 where they lost out to Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014.

K.L. Rahul is the current captain of the team while legendary Indian bowler Anil Kumble is the head coach. Wasim Jaffer is the batting coach of the team and Sunil Joshi is the spin bowling coach.

Punjab Kings Captain

kings XI Punjab started the Indian Premier League in 2008 with Yuvraj Singh as the skipper and he continued to don the role of captain till 2009.

In 2010, the team had two captains- Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.

In 2011, the team appointed Adam Gilchrist as the captain who continued till 2013. David Hussey was also the captain of the squad in 2012.

Then, in 2014, the team had George Bailey as the captain and then Virender Sehwag in 2015.

David Miller and Murali Vijay were the two skippers of 2016.

Glen Maxwell was appointed as the captain in 2017 and Ravichandran Ashwin for 2018 and 2019.

K.L. Rahul was the new captain of PK in IPL 2020.

Punjab Kings Team Owner

The Kings XI Punjab is owned by multiple owners- industrialist Mohit Burman of the famed Dabur group, business tycoon Ness Wadia and popular Bollywood actress Preity Zinta. Burman owns 46% of the stake while Wadia and Zinta own 23% each. At present, industrialist Karan Paul also owns 8% share in the team.

Punjab Kings official home venue

The official home venue of Punjab Kings is Punjab Cricket Association Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium. Founded in 1993, the stadium is popularly dubbed as Mohali Stadium as it is based in Mohali, Chandigarh. The stadium is owned by Punjab Cricket Association and boasts a capacity of 26,000 spectators.
