Kings XI Punjab Past Performances Year Wise in IPL T20
The Punjab team had a commendable season in the inaugural session of the Indian Premier League. Although the team lost out on the first two matches against CSK and RR yet bounced back with a win in the 3rd match against Mumbai Indians. The team suffered from the absence of two of its major players in the season, Simon Katich and Brett Lee, but other players managed to keep up the good work. Out of the 15 matches played, the team won in 10 of them and secured a firm place in the Playoffs. But, the team lost to Chennai Super Kings in the 2nd semi-final and left IPL in the 3rd position on the points table. Shaun Marsh, leading hitter from KXIP, was felicitated with the Orange Cap for being the lead run-scorer in the series.
The 2008 semi-finalists started the 2nd IPL season with a new strong sponsor (Emirates) that offered them enough backing to spend on new players. The team made two new additions to the team, Yusuf Abdullah and Jerome Taylor but could not bid on Aussie players as they were mostly unavailable. Worse, Taylor became unavailable too given his injury and the team was in a weak spot. KXIP commenced the 2nd IPL season with two losses to Delhi Daredevils and Kolkata Knight Riders. But, the squad bounced back on the 3rd match with a win against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The team again had to face two back-to-back losses against Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians and they finally seized a win against RCB in the next match. However, they again had 3 losses against KKR, RR and CSK. Out of the 14 matches played they managed to win at 7 and finished at the 5th position on the points table.
The 3rd season was one of the worst years for the Kings XI Punjab. They lost in first three matches against Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Deccan Chargers. The 4th match was a tie with Chennai Super Kings. But, they again lost the following 4 matches against RR, KKR, MI and RCB. Of the 14 matches played, the team could only win at 4. Shaun Marsh tried his best to bolster the team’s performance but lack of contribution from other players turned the table against the team. KXIP finished at the last position of the points table.
The 4th season of the Indian Premier League was comparatively a better year for the Kings XI Punjab. The team came up with a high profile team with Adam Gilchrist as the skipper and Michael Bevan as the coach. They lost their first match against Pune Warriors India but won 3 back-to-back matches Chennai Super Kings, Deccan Chargers and Rajasthan Royals. After that, they lost out on the following 5 matches against DD, KKR, MI, RCB and PWI. Of the 14 matchers played, the Punjab team could manage to win 7. Unfortunately, they couldn’t secure a berth in Playoffs by just one victory and ended up in the 5th position on the points table.
The Punjab-based team started the 2012 season of the IPL with two back-to-back losses against Rajasthan Royals and Pune Warriors India. But they won the next two matches Pune Warriors India and Kolkata Knight Riders. After that, they lost again to KKR and RCB. Of the 16 matches played, the team won at 8 of them. They could not manage a place in the Playoffs and finished on the 6th position on the points table.

They again won against Kolkata Knight Riders in the 4th match but lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Out of the 16 matches played, the team could win in 8. Unfortunately, Preity Zinta’s team lost to Shah Rukh Khan’s team in the final.

Of the 14 matches played, the team managed to win in 7 of them and finished the season in the 5th position. Their last defeat to Rising Pune Supergiant denied them an entry in the playoffs.
The 2018 season was not really a great year for the KXIP. Although they started the season with a win against Delhi Daredevils yet lost out to Royal Challengers Bangalore in the second match. They won the next 4 matches against Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders as well as Delhi Daredevils. But, then KXIP lost out to Sunrisers Hyderabad again.
