Barbados Tridents

The Barbados Tridents represents Barbados in the Caribbean Premier League. This team has always been one of the strongest competitors in the Caribbean Premier League. It is one of the six teams created in 2013 for the opening season of the tournament. The team contains good, experienced international players with a bunch of young talented cricketers. The current captain of the team is West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder. He proved his captaincy in previous seasons of CPL.

Barbados Tridents has won the CPL title twice back in 2014 and 2019. Barbados Tridents are the defending champs of 2020 CPL.  From the very first season, the team has given its best to win the title and showed talent. Barbados Tridents also has a huge fan base, and they always get good support from spectators.

At present, Phil Simmons is the head coach and Jason Holder is the captain of the team.

The team has played 3 CPL finals till now and won 2 titles. They are the defending champions of 2020 CPL. The team has won two titles, in 2014 under the captaincy of Kieron Pollard, and in 2019 under the captaincy of Jason Holder.

Captain

The team was captained by Kieron Pollard in 5 seasons of CPL. Pollard was the leader of the team till 2017 CPL season. He won 1 title for the team. But in CPL 2018, the team had changed their captain and made Jason Holder the new captain of the team. Therefore the current captain of the Barbados Tridents is Jason Holder.

CPL 2013

Kieron Pollard had captained the Barbados Tridents for their maiden CPL season. Barbados Tridents had played the first match of CPL against St Lucia Zouks and won the match by 17 runs. Shoaib Malik and captain Pollard had scored brilliant half-centuries and made 78 and 61 runs respectively.  Barbados Tridents had played very good cricket in the league stage and won 4 matches out of 7. It had finished group league at 3rd position.  The team had played against Jamaica Tallawahs in the semi-final match. Jamaica Tallawahs had won the match by 7 wickets and reached the final of maiden CPL season. Barbados Tridents had finished at 3rd position in CPL 2013. Shoaib Malik had scored most runs (272) in this season.

CPL 2014

Kieron Pollard had maintained his position of team captain and kicked off the season with good winning momentum. Barbados Tridents had finished the league matches by winning 6 matches out of 9 and topped the standings table. It had directly qualified to final of CPL 2014. Barbados Tridents had played final against Guyana Amazon Warriors. It was 2nd CPL final for Guyana Amazon Warriors and 1st final for Barbados Tridents. Barbados Tridents had won the final match by 8 runs (D/L). Shoaib Malik was declared as the player of the match in the final for his brilliant half-century. It was a memorable season for all Barbados Tridents fans as the season had got their first-ever CPL trophy. Ravi Rampaul from Barbados Tridents had taken most (18) wickets in this season.

CPL 2015

The defending champions of CPL 2015 season had begun the tournament with a big win of 49 runs against Guyana Amazon Warriors. The team was again captained by Kieron Pollard as he had proven his captaincy by winning the CPL title for Barbados. Barbados Tridents had finished the league matches in style and won 6 games out of 10. It had topped the standings table and directly qualified for 2nd CPL final. The final was played between Barbados Tridents and Trinbago Knight Riders at Port of Spain. It was the first-ever CPL final for Trinbago Knight Riders. Trinbago Knight Riders had scored 178 runs in their 20 overs, but Barbados could not chase the target and lost the final. Trinbago Knight Riders had won the game by 20 runs and won their first CPL title.

CPL 2016

The 2016 CPL season was the worst season for Barbados Tridents in the history of CPL. Barbados Tridents could not even qualify for playoffs. Barbados Tridents had won only 3 games out of 10 and finished the tournament at the second last position. Shoaib Malik had scored most runs for Barbados Tridents in this season 263 runs with a batting average of 32.87. Skipper Kieron Pollard had a disappointing season with both bat and captaincy. First time in the history of CPL Barbados Tridents had not reach the playoffs. 

CPL 2017

In CPL 2017, Barbados Tridents had added some of the best T20 international players in their side like Eoin Morgan. There was also a controversy in CPL 2017 in Barbados Tridents that the players did not get the full payment before starting the season. Barbados Tridents players had big hope from England's skipper Eoin Morgan. The team franchise had shown trust in Kieron Pollard and had maintained him as the captain of the team. But Barbados tridents won 4 games out of 10 and could not qualify for playoffs. It finished the tournament at 5th place. Once again, the team had disappointed everyone with their performance. 

CPL 2018

After the disappointing performance by the team in CPL 2017, the franchise had picked some experienced new players in CPL 2018. The team had picked Steven Smith, Hashim Amla, in the auction and released their captain Kieron Pollard. The captaincy was given to Jason Holder. It was his first season as captain of Barbados Tridents. The franchise had changed the team captain, changed the team players, but the fortune did not change. The team performed even worse than the previous year. Barbados Tridents had won only 2 matches out of 10 and finished the tournament at the bottom position. It was the first incident in the history of CPL that Barbados Tridents had finished the league at the bottom position. It was a tough time for both fans and players. The things did not go as well as planned by the franchise. But it was the first season of Jason Holder as captain, so it was required by the franchise to show faith in players and back the team for the next CPL season.   

CPL 2019

The CPL 2019 was very important for Barbados Tridents. It was very necessary for the team to bounce back and perform extremely well. The franchise had shown trust in Jason Holder, and he had maintained his captaincy in the 2019 CPL season. The team had played good cricket in this season, won 5 games out of 10 in league games and hold 2nd position on the point table. The team had qualified for playoffs after 3 years. Barbados Tridents were defeated by Guyana Amazon Warriors in qualifier 1, and Guyana Amazon Warriors had secured their place in another CPL final. In qualifier 2, Barbados Tridents had won the match against Trinbago Knight Riders by 12 runs and reached their 3rd CPL final. It was the final between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Barbados Tridents. Jonathan Carter had made a quick not out 50 runs in just 27 balls for Barbados Tridents. Barbados had made 171 runs in their 20 over. It was a good score to defend. Guyana Amazon Warriors had made only 144 runs, and Barbados had won the game by 27 runs. The team had won their 2nd CPL title. It was a dreamy comeback for Barbados Tridents. They had broken the 11 matches winning streak of Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final. Carter was selected as the player of the match in the final. Hayden Wash Jr. of Barbados Tridents had taken most wickets (22) this season and had won player of the series award.

CPL 2020

In the Caribbean Premier League 2020, Barbados Tridents were captained by Jason Holder. Trevor Penney was the coach of Barbados Tridents in this season of CPL. Kensington Oval, Barbados was the Home Ground of this team. Manish Patel is the American-based team owner of Barbados Tridents. They played a total of 10 matches in the League Stage out of which they won 3 matches and lost 7 matches. They gained a total of 6 points and thus, did not qualify for the playoffs of CPL 2020. Kyle Mayers was the highest run-scorer of Barbados Tridents; he made 222 runs for his team in 9 matches with a batting average of 24.66 and had a strike rate of 111.55 in CPL 2020. The highest score Kyle Mayers made was against Jamaica Tallawahs; he scored 85 runs. The leading wicket-taker of Barbados Tridents was Rashid Khan as he took 11 wickets in 10 matches with a bowling economy of 6.85 at 22.63 bowling average. His best bowling spell was against St. Lucia Zouks in which he took 2 wickets in 2 overs by giving 24 runs.
