Rain Abandons Play As The Points Are Shared Between The Teams

West Indies faced Ireland in a match that was called off due to rain and eventually West Indies was declared as the winner because of their superior batting run rate against Australia. This is only the second time that a team has gone on to play the super eights without even winning a single match in the group stage. Earlier in 2010 it happened with England too and this time it’s the West Indies. It was pretty harsh on the Irish team who did not even get to bowl a single delivery. Electing to bowl first West Indies did not let Ireland blow their bowling off and it Ireland was 129 for the loss of 6 wickets. Apart from Porterfield every other batsman got some runs but the run rate was rather slow as compared to a T20 match.

The West Indies bowlers also were successful with their bowling. Only Russell did not get a wicket and Chris Gayle picked 2 wickets. The first innings was about to end but the rain gods had other ideas and it came pouring down and did not look to stop. Ultimately the umpires along with the match referee decided to call the match off and the points were shared between the 2 teams.
