India dominates South Africans in all departments of cricket - The defending champions India took South Africa one of the title favorites this year in the Pool B match. This was the 2nd match for both the teams and they both were coming up from a win in their previous encounters against Pakistan and Zimbabwe respectively. This match was being considered as a real test for the Indians as South Africa are a tough team to beat. After winning the toss India decided to bat first in Melbourne.

Batting first India lost Rohit Sharma early due to a run out. He scored 0 runs before losing the wicket. Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan once again batted together for India and took the score beyond 100 runs. Soon Kohli after scoring 46 runs lost his wicket leaving his team at a score of 136 in 28th over. Ajinkya Rahane stepped in and he batted with elegance and style. Quickly along with Dhawan he rotated the strike and took India to 261 runs. It was here when Dhawan lost his wicket after scoring 137 runs. With 6 overs remaining India was looking to increase the scoring rate and in the process lost quick wickets. Rahane after scoring 79 runs lost his wicket as India posted 307 runs in 50 overs.

South Africa was capable of chasing it down comfortably but Indian bowlers from the start looked up charged and they took the wicket of Quinton de Kock up early. He was able to score only 7 runs. Hashim Amla too didn’t last long as after scoring 22 runs he lost his wicket. Faf du Plessis and AB de Villiers took charge and were looking dangerous when India struck with a run out as AB de Villiers after scoring 30 runs lost his wicket. Bowlers tighten their grip on the match and due to the pressure created wickets started to fall. Faf after scoring 55 runs lost his wicket and hence the team was bowled out at 177 runs. India won the match by 130 runs and went to the top of Pool B. Shikhar Dhawan was named as the man of the match for his marvelous innings.
