Kevin O’Brien takes his team to the first victory in CPL - The Trinidad and Tobago Red Steels after the dismal start to the Caribbean Premier League won their first match against the Guyana Amazon Warriors. The match was a home game for the Red Steels and after winning the toss they elected to bat first. Kevin O’Brien and Adrian Barath gave their team a great opening wicket partnership. The two players scored 95 runs before Barath lost his wicket in the 12th over of the game. O’Brien continued to score runs as he scored 70 odd runs from just 47 balls. the innings was ended by Ross Taylor as he scored 39 runs off just 27 balls. the home side ended their innings at a total of 159 losing 4 wickets. Krishmar Santokie was yet again the best bowler for the Warriors as he took 2 wickets giving away only 25 runs in his 4 over spell.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors while chasing the score of 160 lost the wicket of Lendl Simmons in the third over of the innings. Simmons was the man in form and after scoring 18 runs off just 10 balls he lost his wicket leaving his team to a score of 22/1. Later the runs were scored by Mohammad Hafeez while Martin Guptill was struggling to find the middle of the bat. Soon Guptill departed in the 6th over of the innings leaving his team to 41/2. Just 11 balls later the home team managed to take another wicket of Ramnaresh Sarwan. At the end James Franklin lit up the show with some magnificent batting strokes. He scored 60 runs off just 34 balls. He got his partner in Christopher Barnwell and both these batsmen managed to take their team closer to victory. All the efforts of Franklin went in vain as his team lost by just 3 runs at the end. Dwayne Bravo was the pick of the bowler who took 2 wickets giving away 21 runs. Kevin O’Brien was named the man of the match for his wonderful batting performance.
