The 5th match of the CPL 2020 was played between St Lucia Zouks and Barbados Tridents on August 20, Thursday at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad. Barbados Tridents captain Jason Holder won the toss and decided to bat first.
The match was disturbed by bad weather conditions. Barbados Tridents opening batsman Johnson Charles gave good start to team and played good inning of 35 runs in just 19 balls. Captain Holder also scored 27 runs in just 12 balls. Barbados Tridents scored 131 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 18.1 over. The rain disturbed the match. Mitchell Santner and Ashley Nurse were on the wicket for Barbados when the rain stopped the game. Roston Chase bowled accurately and gave only 8 runs in his 2 over. He also took 2 important wickets of Barbados Tridents. Scott Kuggelejin also took 2 wickets.
The target of 47 runs in 5 over as per the D/L method was given to St Lucia Zouks. R Cornwall opened the innings for St Lucia Zouks and scored 14 runs in 8 balls and got out by Rashid Khan. Andre Fletcher played brilliant inning of not out 16 runs in 7 balls and helped St Lucia Zouks to win the game. Mohammad Nabi also scored quick 15 runs in just 6 balls and became the architect of the victory. St Lucia Zouks won the game by 7 wickets (D/L) and by having 5 balls to spare.
It was the bad luck of Barbados Tridents that D/L method interfered in the game. Mohammad Nabi was selected as the player of the match for his brilliant all round game. He scored important 15 runs and also took 1 wicket with ball by giving only 19 runs in his 4 over. This victory will help St Lucia Zouks to look forward in CPL 2020.
