Both the openers of the Scorchers played well and gave a superb start. At the end of the first Powerplay, they had made 42 runs without losing any wicket. Perth had made the first 50 runs in 5.2 overs only. Liam and Jason had made an opening partnership of 83 runs. Melbourne then brought Zahir Khan into the attack and he got the first breakthrough for his team. Zahir Khan took the wicket of Liam Livingstone in the 10th over and Jason Roy was also sent back in the next over i.e, 11th over. Then the rest of the work was completed by Colin Munro and Josh Inglis. Colin Munro made unbeaten 46 runs from 30 balls that helped the Scorchers to put the score of 182 runs on the scoreboard. Jason Roy was the top scorer with his 54 runs from 32 balls for Perth Scorchers. Melbourne Stars got the challenging target of 183 runs from 120 balls.

Marcus Stoinis and Seb Gotch were sent on the ground to chase the target. Jhye Richardson got the new ball to open attack. Melbourne did not get a good start and lost both openers at the score of 32 runs and 35 runs. Nick Larkin came at the number 3 position and Maxwell joined him at the number 4 position. But Maxwell did not control the situation and returned back without making any run. Nick Larkin on the other side was looking well and he played an important inning of 70 runs from 44 balls but could not achieve the target.
