Melbourne Stars Cricket Team

Melbourne Stars is a Melbourne city-based franchise cricket team in Australian domestic Twenty20 cricket Big Bash League (BBL). Melbourne Stars did not win the title in BBL history and yet looking for its maiden win of the series. The team qualified for playoffs for the maximum time, but they failed to win any BBL title till now. Melbourne Stars plays their home matches at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Glenn Maxwell is the current captain of Melbourne Stars and the chief coach of the team is David Hussey.

Melbourne Stars BBL Performance

2011-12

The team was first captained by Cameron White. Melbourne Stars are also known as Team Green. They showed quality cricket in the first edition of BBL. They won 4 league matches out of 7 and qualified for knockouts. They did not win the semi-final match and finished the season as a semi-finalist.

2012-13

The franchise changed the captain of the team, and Shane Warne was appointed as team captain. They performed extremely well and finished the league stage at the 3rd position. They again failed to win the knockout match and finished as a semi-finalist.

2013-14

Melbourne Stars dominated the season. They won 8 out of 8 league matches and finished the league stage at the top position. It was for the third time they failed to win the semi-final match. They completely dominated the league stage but defeated in knockouts.

2014-15

Melbourne Stars continued their great form season by season. They won 5 games out of 8 and finished the league stage at 4th position. Melbourne Stars were defeated in semi-final match for the 4th consecutive time in BBL and finished as a semi-finalist.

2015-16

David Hussey was introduced as captain for Stars in BBL 2015-16. The Stars managed to continue their dominance on oppositions. They finished the league stage at 2nd position, and this time they won their first-ever semi-final match. The team played its first BBL final but failed to win the title and finished as runners-up.

2016-17

Melbourne Stars qualified for playoffs in BBL 2016-17, and it was the 6th consecutive edition of BBL for Stars in which they qualified for semi-finals. The Stars could not win the semi-final match and finished the journey as a semi-finalist.

2017-18

This was the worst BBL year for Melbourne Stars. They failed to qualify for playoffs, and it was for the 1st time in 7 years when the Stars could not reach up to Knockouts. They won only 2 matches out of 10 and finished the season at the bottom position.

2018-19

Melbourne Stars bounced back and finished the league stage at 4th position. They won the semi-final match and reached to their 2nd BBL final. The final was played between Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades. The Stars failed to win the match and finished as runners-up.  

2019-20

Melbourne Stars won 10 league matches out of 14 in BBL 2019-20 and finished the league stage at the top position. They won the qualifiers match and reached to their 3rd ever BBL final. The team played against Sydney Sixers in final. Unfortunately, they could not win the match and finished as runners-up.
