It was the 12th match of IPL 2020 played on 30 September 2020. The match was played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai, between two mega teams, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders. Team RR was captained by Steve Smith while KKR was captained by Dinesh Karthik. RR had won the toss and choose to bowl first.

In the first inning, Kolkata Knight Riders batsmen Shubman Gill and Sunil Narine had opened the inning. They played well and laid the foundation for a big score. As first wicket, Narine got out at the score of 36 in the 5th over. Gill was joined by Nitish Rana. In the 10th over, KKR had lost its another wicket in the form of Rana, but on one end, Shubman was playing well. In 12th over, Shubman Gill also got out at the score of 89. However, Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell, and Pat Cummins tried well to make the team rich a good score. Finally, KKR made 174 runs at a loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. From RR, Jofra Archer had taken the most 2 wickets.

Hence the target for Rajasthan Royals was 175 runs. The inning of RR was opened by captain Steve Smith and Joss Buttler. In the second over, only RR had lost its first wicket when Smith was caught by Dinesh Karthik behind the wickets and bowled by Shivam Mavi. In the fifth over again, it lost the second wicket in the form of Sanju Samson. Hence RR lost wicket at regular intervals, which placed the batsmen under huge pressure. Looking at the batting line up of RR, it was an achievable target, but after losing a few wickets, even the score of 100 was looking tough for them. The bowlers of KKR had bowled well and did not give any chance to the batsmen to set on the crease.  RR could make only 137 runs in 20 overs after losing 9 wickets, and hence KKR won the match with a margin of 37 runs. From the KKR team, Tom Curran, Joss Buttler, and Rahul Tevatia could score in double-digits, and the rest of the batsmen could not stand to play and score that much also. From KKR, Shivam Mavi was the leading wicket-taker. He had taken 2 wickets in his spell of 4 overs by giving 20 runs only. He was declared as the player of the match for his excellent bowling performance.
