Auckland Bowlers humiliate Otago to win the match easily - The 7th match of the Georgie Pie Super Smash series was played in the Seddon Park in Hamilton. This match featured the Auckland and Otago fighting it out for the all-important points than would help them to reach the top positions in the league table. This was the 2nd time in the tournament that these two teams were playing against each other. In the previous encounter Auckland emerged as winners and this time around the Otago were looking for revenge.

After winning the toss it was Otago who decided to field first. The first success came for the bowling side in the 4th over of the game when they took the wicket of Anaru Kitchen. It was the only success they received in the early overs as later the match was taken away by some good batting display by Martin Guptill and Rob Nicol. These two batsmen together put up a great partnership of 137 runs. Nicol scored 74 runs while Guptill scored 84 runs taking their team to a total of 156 in 18.4 overs. It was Nicol who lost his wicket and brought in Colin Munro. He made full use of the cushion provided by the players and scored 19 runs of 5 balls taking the total to a score of 189 runs.

The score of 189 was not a tough target to achieve but an out of form batting line up of Otago made it look as a huge task. They failed to bat in a proper way as they lost many wickets early in the game. Michael Bracewell was the top scorer for the team scoring 27 runs while rest of the team faulted while batting. The team was bowled out at a score of 83 runs. Thus Auckland bowlers helped their team register an emphatic win of 106 runs and thus in the process earned the all-important 4 points. Otago are still fighting out without a single victory in the tournament.
