Northern Districts wins the match to end Mumbai Indians run - The final qualifying match of the Champions league T20 2014 was played between Mumbai Indians and Northern Districts. The Northern Districts almost had a foot in the main league until and unless they lost the match with a big margin while for Mumbai Indians it was a must win match. After winning the toss the Northern Districts decided to field first. Batting first the batting problems for Mumbai Indians continued as the top order were unable to provide a good start to the team. The team lost 2 wickets in the 1st 6 overs of the game losing the wicket of Michael Hussy and Jalaj Saxena. Hussey was yet again a failure in the tournament as he was able to score only 7 runs. By the end of the 11th over of the game the team found themselves in deeper trouble as they lost 5 wickets at score of 46. Kieron Pollard was the player who started scoring some runs for the team as he scored 31 runs but lost his wicket in the 17th over leaving his team to 89/7. Latish Malinga played an important role in the game as he scored 20 runs in 8 balls while Shreyas Goyal gave his team a good finish as he scored 24 runs in the end taking Mumbai Indians to 132. This was a score which was never thought of at one stage. Scott Styris and Tim Southee took 3 wickets each in the match.

The Northern Districts had the Mumbai Indians in the bag with their bowling and now a sensible batting would have made them cross the line easily. Anton Devcich and Kane Williamson gave the team a good start yet again. They scored 83 runs for the first wicket. Devcich lost his wicket in the 10th over after scoring 39 runs. Daniel Flynn and Williamson scored some runs for the team and took the team to 103. The Northern Districts were in the driver seat and a few hiccups came in the middle as the bowlers took 3 quick wickets but later Daryl Mitchell made sure that the team won the match and took his team cross the line with 17 balls remaining. Scott Styris was named as the OPPO man of the match for his wonderful bowling performance. Mumbai Indians after losing the match failed to qualify for the league while Northern Districts qualified as top team followed by Lahore Lions.
