Bangladesh emerge victorious in the 1st test against Zimbabwe - Zimbabwe after playing against Australia and South Africa in their home ground made a tour of Bangladesh to play tests and ODI’s. In this series the teams were supposed to play three test match series. The 1st test of the series was played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

In the test after winning the toss the Zimbabwe team decided to bat first. The decision of batting first was not good for the team as they lost many wickets in the start of the game. The start which the team got proved that it is a young team which needed a great amount of time to grow as a test playing squad. Sikandar Raza was the only player in the squad which made sure that the team had some runs on board. He scored 51 runs and was accompanied by Craig Ervine who scored 34 runs. The rest of the team were able to score only runs in 20’s as the Bangladesh bowlers ran through the team quite comfortably. At tea on Day 1 the visiting team were able to reach a score of 179/5 and they were fighting it hard but the next session saw the home team enjoying the upper hand. Visitors were bowled out before the end of day at a score of 240. Shakib Al Hassan was the outstanding bowler who took 6 wickets for his team. The home team ended the day at a score of 27/1 losing the wicket of Tamim Iqbal.

The 2nd Day of the game saw some wonderful display of cricket by both the team as the middle order of the home team shone scoring most of the runs. Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah scored 53 and 63 runs respectively to take the team to strong position and later Mushfiqur Rahim the captain of the team played a captains knock scoring 64 runs. These three players made all the runs while other faulted with the bat. The home team was able to score only 254 runs and were bowled out after tea. Tinashe Panyangara took 5 wickets in the innings for the team and brought them back in the match. On the 2nd day the visiting team were able to bat for only 2 overs and they were able to score only 5 runs without losing any wicket.

The 3rd day was not good for the visitors as they lost too many wickets that to very early in the match. The top order provided no resistance and hence the wickets tumbled. Brendan Taylor was the only batsmen who showed some resistance and scored 45 runs. The whole team was bowled out at a score of 114 runs only setting up a target of 101 runs. Taijul Islam was the key bowler as he took 8 wickets in the innings. The home team also found difficulty in scoring these runs as the top order collapsed. The middle order too contributed in 20’s and at the end the home team emerged victorious losing 7 wickets in the process. Taijul Islam was named as the man of the match as they now led the series 1-0.
