The cricket governing authority of South Africa (Cricket South Africa) has confirmed that they will travel to New Zealand to play the 2 test matches series in February and March 2022. This test series will be an integral component of the ICC Test Championship 2021-2023. New Zealand cricket confirmed the dates of the 2 test matches in November 2021. New Zealand vs South Africa test series 2022 will commence with the first test which will be held at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on 17th February 2022. The test series will end with the 2nd test at Basin Reserve, Wellington on 25 February 2022.
South Africa will want to retain their good record of winning against New Zealand when the team will be in New Zealand in February 2022. Currently, Dean Elgaris the captain of the South African test team, and they will most probably visit under the leadership of Dean Elgar. On the other hand, New Zealand is in very good form presently and has already won the ICC Test championship. New Zealand does not have a very good record against South Africa as they have played 45 test matches against South Africa and lost 25 matches and could get victory in 4 test matches only.
As of November 2021, South Africa has played 445 test matches out of which they got the victory in 169 tests, lost 152 tests, and 124 were drawn. Both the teams have faced each other in 45 test matches in which South Africa has often dominated New Zealand according to the past record. But right now, the Kiwis are sitting at the top position in the ICC Test team ranking and most of their players are in good form including their captain Kane Williamson.
The South African skipper Dean Elgar will want more points to the ICC Test Championship points table by defeating New Zealand. He has played 69 test matches for his country and scored 4347 runs with an average of 39.16. New Zealand has never been able to win a test series against South Africa, so it would be interesting to watch how New Zealand will fight to achieve their first series win against South Africa. Both the team played their last test match in 2017 and they will face each other after a long interval of 5 years.
