The national governing body of cricket for Australia and New Zealand has confirmed that there will only be a T20 international match between them when New Zealand visits Australia in the month of Jan-Feb 2022. The single T20I match between Australia and New Zealand will be contested at Manuka Oval, Canberra on 8 February 2022.
Currently, Australia is sitting at the number 7 position in the ICC T20 team ranking and New Zealand is positioned at the number 4 position. New Zealand is higher in the rank position but playing against Australia and defeating them on their home ground is not a simple task. The very first T20 international match between Aus and NZ was played at Auckland on Feb 17, 2005. That was the first T20 international match in the history of cricket that gave birth to the shortest format of the game. Australia won their first T20 international by 44 runs under the leadership of Ricky Ponting.
Since 2005, Australia and New Zealand have played 14 T20 international matches against each other in which Australia has won 9 matches and New Zealand achieved victory in 5 matches. The winning percentage of Australia is better than New Zealand that shows the Aussies are the stronger side.
Currently, Aaron Finch is leading the Australia team in the shortest format of cricket and Tom Latham may lead New Zealand. As of Oct 2021, Australian skipper Aaron Finch is at the number 3 position in the ICC T20 player ranking whereas Tom Latham is far behind him, Latham ICC T20 ranking is 44. But both the team has strong depth in their batting line up and also got some of the best pacers in the T20 format. Since the beginning of T20 international, the match between them has always been thrilling and intoxicating, so it is going to be lots of enjoyable to watch them playing against each other.
