New Zealand vs India ODI Series 2020


One day international cricket series between India and New Zealand was held in February of 2020. The series was comprised of 3 matches. The tour began with the first match at Seddon Park, Hamilton in New Zealand on February 5, Wednesday. New Zealand official captain Kane Williamson was not available for this match. Therefore, Tom Latham was assigned as the standby captain of the team while Virat Kohli guided the Indian team as captain. Both the teams had quality players, and good cricket was expected from both the teams, and it was considered as a tough series for both the sides.

In the first match of series New Zealand team dominated over Indian team, won the first match of the series and took an early lead. Ross Taylor shined in this match and played a match-winning inning for the team. India scored 347 runs with a loss of 4 wickets while New Zealand scored 348 with a loss of 6 wickets.

New Zealand team showed exceptional performance in all departments of the game and defeated Indian side. It was a very important win for New Zealand as they lose all matches of T20 series, so it was a significant win for New Zealand. Ross Taylor was selected as player of the match award for his match-winning and class century. In the post-match presentation, the Kiwi skipper congratulated and motivated the other players of the team while on the other hand Indian captain looked disappointed with the performance of the team and motivated and appreciated of the efforts of the player and promised to fight back in 2nd match.

The 2nd match of the series was played at Eden Park, Auckland on February 8, Saturday. The match was on Saturday, and the ground was filled with supporters of both the teams. The ground was small, and it was a must-win match for Indian team while New Zealand had a chance to seal the series by winning this match. Therefore, this was the most crucial match of the series. New Zealand scored 273 for 8 wickets while Indian team collapsed at 251 runs only. Kiwi debutant Jamieson showed brilliant all-round performance and helped the Kiwi team to win the match and series. It was a close match, but New Zealand showed better cricket than Indian team in all departments. Jamieson was also awarded as the player of the match.

The 3rd or last match of the series was held on February 11, Tuesday at Mount Maunganui. Kane Williamson of New Zealand was available for this match, and he led Kiwi team for this last match of series. KL Rahul scored a brilliant century in this match and played a beautiful inning for Indian team. Shreyas Iyer also scored a sparkling half-century and also Manish Pandey who was playing his first game of the series also scored 42 runs and helped Indian team to reach a total of 296 runs. New Zealand team batted very well, and opener Henry Nicholls scored 80 runs while De Grandhomme and Latham played a good match-winning, not out inning. New Zealand scored 300 at a loss of 5 wickets and won the match. Thus New Zealand team whitewashed Indian team and won the series by 3-0. Ross Taylor was selected as player of the series award for his brilliant batting performance throughout the series.
