The 2nd one-day international match of the ODI series between India and New Zealand was played on February 8, Saturday at Eden Park, in Auckland. New Zealand was leading with 1-0 before this match in this series as it had won the first one-day match of the series. Hence, it was important for Indian team to win this match to be in series.

Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bowl first. The ground was small, and it was a must-win match for Indian team. New Zealand's opener gave a brilliant start to their side and made a solid 93 runs opening partnership. Guptill scored brilliant 79 runs while the player of the match of previous game Ross Taylor again showed his class and scored 73 runs. The middle order of New Zealand side failed badly, but seam bowler Jamieson added important 25 runs in New Zealand's total. Chahal took most 3 wickets from Indian side. New Zealand scored 273 runs in their 50 over, and it was a tricky target for Indian team. 

In 2nd inning of the match, Indian openers failed to give a perfect start to Indian team and got out early. Captain Kohli too scored only 15 runs and got out to Southee. Shreyas Iyer played a brilliant inning and scored a fifty. He made 52 runs. It was a hopeless situation for Indian team then Jadeja showed some fighting back spirit and gave hope to Indian fans. He scored 55 runs. But unfortunately, Jadeja got out to Neesham, and New Zealand won the match by 22 runs and also sealed the series.

It was a close match, but New Zealand's bowler performed well and led their team to victory. Jamieson was selected as player of the match award for his brilliant all-round performance.
