Brendon McCullum takes Otago Volts to their first win in the 2013 CL T20 - The 1st qualifying match of the Champions League T20 match was played between the Faisalabad Wolves and Otago. These were the teams from Pakistan and New Zealand respectively. The match was played in the PCA stadium situated in Mohali. After winning the toss the Faisalabad Wolves decided to bat first. The team batting first lost its wickets in the first 6 overs thus setting up themselves to a bad start. The 3rd wicket too fell in the 8th over as Asif Ali after scoring 14 runs lost his wicket. Khurram Shehzad and Misbah-ul-Haq together managed to control the innings. They together managed to stitch a 61 runs partnership. Khurram scored 27 runs while Misbah scored 46 runs before losing their wicket leaving the team to 108/5 after 17 overs. The last 3 overs of the game saw the team score 31 runs but in the meantime lose 3 wickets. At the end of 20 overs the Faisalabad Wolves scored 139 runs after losing 8 wickets. Ian Butler managed to take 2 wickets by giving away 23 runs.

Otago lost the 1st wicket in 2 balls as Neil Broom lost his wicket without even scoring a single run. Hamish Rutherford and Brendon McCullum together controlled the innings scoring 41 runs together. Rutherford after scoring 25 runs lost his wicket in the 6th over. Later Derek de Boorder and Brendon McCullum together made sure that without losing any wicket the team managed to win the match in the 18th over of the game. McCullum scored 83 runs while Boorder scored 30 runs to take the team to a total of 142. McCullum won the man of the match award for his brilliant batting display that took their team one step closer to qualify for the main event. For this match Otago earned 4 points.
