The 1st test match of the 2 matches Test series between New Zealand and Pakistan was held on December 26-30 of 2020 at Bay Oval, New Zealand. Kane Williamson was the captain of the New Zealand team, and M Rizwan was the captain of Pakistan team. Pakistan won the toss and chose to field first.
Tom Latham and T Blundell opened the inning for New Zealand. Both the openers failed to give a good start to the team, and New Zealand lost both their openers on just 13 runs. Shaheen Afridi bowled brilliantly with the new ball. Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor made a brilliant partnership of 120 runs for the 3rd wicket. Ross Taylor made 70 runs and got out to Shaheen Afridi. Henry Nicholls and BJ Watling also batted brilliantly and made 56 and 73 runs respectively. Kane Williamson scored a brilliant century and made most 129 runs. New Zealand made 431 runs in 1st inning. Shaheen Afridi took most 4 wickets for Pakistan.
Pakistan's top order collapsed badly, and Pakistan lost their 6 wickets on just 80 runs. Captain M Rizwan and F Ashraf made 107 runs partnership for 7th wicket. F Ashraf scored most 91 runs for Pakistan, and skipper M Rizwan also made 71 runs. Pakistan made 239 runs in 1st inning. Kyle Jamieson took most 3 wickets for New Zealand. New Zealand took a lead of 192 runs after 1st inning.
New Zealand openers gave brilliant start to the team in 2nd inning and made an opening partnership of 111 runs. T Blundell scored most 64 runs for the team, and New Zealand team declared inning on 180 runs. Naseem Shah took most 3 wickets for Pakistan in 2nd inning. It was a target of 373 runs for Pakistan to win the match. Both the Pakistan openers S Masood and A Ali got out on a duck. Pakistan team was struggling at 75/4 then F Alam and M Rizwan made a brilliant partnership of 165 runs for 5th wicket. F Alam made most 102 runs for Pakistan in 2nd inning. Captain M Rizwan showed quality batting and made 60 runs. Pakistan team failed to chase the target and got all out on just 271 runs.
New Zealand managed to win the match by 101 runs and took a lead of 1-0 in the series. Kane Williamson was selected as player of the match for his brilliant century in 1st inning. New Zealand also achieved the milestone of number 1 Test team with this victory.
