The 5th T20I match of the NZ vs Aus series 2021 was played at Westpac Stadium, Wellington on 7 March 2021. That match was the decider of the series because the series was running with 2-2 results. Australian team got back dynamically after being defeated in the first two matches. Australia came out to the middle unchanged and the captain of the squad won the toss and decided to have the bat in hand first. Josh Philippe and Aaron Finch came out to the middle to open and Tim Southee got the new ball in hand.

Devon Conway and Martin Guptill came out to the middle to chase the target and Ashton Agar got the responsibility to have the new ball in hand. New Zealand got a wonderful start and had made 51 runs without any loss at the end of the mandatory Powerplay. New Zealand completed its first 100 in 11.2 overs without any loss and had built up the opening partnership of 106 runs. Martin Guptill was the top scorer for the NZ squad and made 71 runs from 46 balls with seven 4s and four 6s. New Zealand dominated Australia from the start and achieved the target very comfortably in 15.3 overs only. New Zealand won the series by 3-2 after winning that match.
