The 2nd Test Match, England tour of India 2021, series was played in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 13 Feb 2021. The Indian captain, Virat Kohli,  won the toss and went for the batting first. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were on the crease to face England Seamer Stuart Broad. The Indian team did not get a good start and lost Shubman Gill in the second over. Shubman was sent back by Olly Stone at 0 runs. Cheteshwar Pujara came to join Rohit Sharma but he could not stay longer and was dismissed by Jack Leach. India had lost its 2 wickets at 85 runs only and then the dismissal of Virant Kohli in the next over was big destruction for the Indian team. But once again Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane proved themself with the bat and handled the situation very nicely. Both had made a nice grip on the match under the pressure and built a very crucial 162 runs partnership for the 4th wicket. Afterward, the unbeaten 58 runs from just 77 balls of Rishab Pant, helped India to put 329 runs on the scoreboard. It was a nice total because Indian Team was in a very bad situation after losing Pujara and Virat for the duck. Moeen Ali and Olly Stone took 4, 3 wickets each for their team.

In the first inning of England, Rory Burns and Dom Sibley were sent to face Indian seamer, Ishant Sharma. England did not get a start what they were hoping for and lost its first wicket at 0 runs. Ishant bowled very well and dismissed Rory Burns for 0 runs. That did not stop there and wickets were falling continuously at regular intervals and the entire team bowled out at 134 runs only. That was the excellent bowling performance by Indian bowlers especially Ravichandran Ashwin for his 5 wickets in the first inning.

India had got the lead of 195 runs and that was a good chance for India to set a big target for England. Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got the opportunity to open the second inning for India and Olly Stone was ready to open the attack. India lost some early wickets and came under pressure. The top order failed to give a good start but then Virat Kohli and Ravi Chandran Ashwin played a nice inning. Virat made 62 runs and Ashwin’s 106 runs helped India to add 286 runs on the scoreboard. Olly Stone and Moeen Ali once again performed well and took 4 wickets each. England got the target of 482 runs to win the match.

England started its second inning with Rory Burns and Dom Sibley to chase the target and on the other hand, Ishant Sharma was ready to open the attack. England’s top order was not able to give a good start and again it was demolished by the Indian bowling combination of Ashwin, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. No batsmen could stay longer on the crease and the England squad could make only 164 runs and lost the match by 317 runs. That was a big victory for India after losing the first test in the same cricket ground in Chennai and also increased their confidence level for the next match in Ahmedabad. Axar Patel did a fabulous job with the ball in the second inning and took 5 wickets for his team.

The second test match, Ind vs Eng 2021, won by India by 317 runs and Ravichandran Ashwin was the Man of the Match.
