The 2nd Test match or Boxing Day Test match of the 4 matches Test series was held on December 26-30 of 2020, Saturday at Melbourne Cricket Ground. Virat Kohli was not available, and therefore Ajinkya Rahane handled the captaincy of the Indian team. Australian captain won the toss and elected to bat first. The Australian team was unchanged, whereas the Indian team did 4 changes.

Joe Burns and Matthew Wade opened the inning, and Burns got out on duck to J Bumrah. Matthew Wade played some good shots and made 30 runs. Steven Smith got out on duck to R Ashwin. M Labuschagne made most 48 runs for Aussies. Travis Head also made 38 runs. Indian bowlers bowled brilliantly, and the Australian team got all out on just 195 runs. J Bumrah took most 4 wickets for India, and R Ashwin took 3 wickets. Mohammed Siraj bowled brilliantly with aggression and took 2 wickets on debut.

Mayank Aggarwal and Shubman Gill opened the innings for India. Mayank Aggarwal got out on duck to Mitchell Starc. Shubman Gill played with intent and made 45 runs. He smashed 8 boundaries in his inning and played fearless cricket. Indian captain Ajinkya Rahane scored a brilliant century. He made most 112 runs for India. Wicket-keeper batsmen R Pant also played a small cameo of 29 runs and made a partnership of 57 runs with Ajinkya Rahane. R Jadeja also made a brilliant half-century and scored 57 runs. India made 326 runs in the 1st inning and took a lead of 131 runs in the match.

Burns failed to score in the 2nd inning and got out on just 4 runs. Matthew Wade showed quality shots and made 40 runs for his team. Australian key player Steven Smith failed to show his class in 2nd inning and got out on just 8 runs to J Bumrah. Cameron Green made most 45 runs in the 2nd inning for Australia. Australian team got all out on just 200 runs in the 2nd inning. Mohammed Siraj, a debutant, took most 3 wickets in the 2nd inning for India. It was a target of 70 runs for India to win the test match.

Shubman Gill and Mayank Aggarwal opened the inning for India. Aggarwal failed to score runs and got out early on just 5 runs. C Pujara also got out on just 3 runs. India lost their 2 wickets on 19 runs. Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane made a brilliant match winning partnership of 51 runs and finished the game for India. India won the match by 8 wickets and leveled the series by 1-1. Ajinkya Rahane was selected as player of the match for his brilliant century in 1st inning.
