Northern Knights win their first match with a good performance - The Georgie Pie Super Smash series started off with the Northern Districts coming face to face against the Wellington. The first match was played in Seddon Park where the Defending champions Northern Districts were the home side. After winning the toss the Wellington team captain decided to bowl first.

The Northern Knights failed to have a good start as Anton Devcich failed to get a good start and lost is wicket in the 2nd ball of the 2nd over. He scored only 1 run before losing his wicket. Dean Brownlie came in and took his place he scored 16 runs off 8 balls taking the score to 37 runs in just 3.1 overs but the very next ball he lost his wicket too. Daniel Flynn after scoring 18 runs in 24 balls lost his wicket in the 6th over of the game leaving his team to a score of 45 runs. Travis Brit scored 44 runs in 53 balls and took the score to 118 in 16.1 overs thus providing the momentum required by the team. Later Ben Laughlin scored 12 runs in 2 balls to take the score to 157 runs in 20 overs. Dane Hutchinson took 4 wickets in the match.

Wellington needed a good start as this was a tricky score to chase. They lost their 1st wicket in the 5th over when Michael Papps lost his wicket leaving his team to a score of 32 runs. Soon the defending champions struck again taking the wicket of Stephen Murdoch. The team reached 100 run marks in 17th over leaving 5 wickets in the process. The fall of wickets never stopped as the team finally lost all their wickets at a score of 131. Brad Hodge and Michael Pollard scored 33 and 35 runs respectively and rest of the batting failed to perform well. With this win the Northern Districts won 4 points in the match.
