The cricket governing body of South Africa has declared that they are all set to visit Australia in order to play 2 ODIs bilateral series in the month of January 2023. The ODI series between Australia and South Africa 2023 will run from 14th Jan to 17th Jan 2023. All the matches of the Australia vs South Africa ODI series 2023 will be held at two different places in Australia. The Aus vs SA ODI series 2023 will begin with the first ODI which will be contested on 14th January 2023 and the series will conclude with the last match on 17th January 2023.
Currently, Aaron Finch is the captain of the Australian ODI squad and most probably he will play the lead role in the upcoming series against Africa whereas Temba Bavuma will play the role of captain for the South African squad under the mentorship of Mark Boucher. The South African captain Bavuma is not much experienced in front of Aaron Finch but he is a rising star who has made 722 runs in 19 ODIs since his debut in 2016. Currently, Australia is listed at the number 3rd position whereas South Africa is sitting at the number 5th position in the ICC ODI team ranking.
In terms of head to head in ODI, South Africa and Australia both have contested 103 ODI matches in which South Africa won on 51 occasions and Australia got the victory in 48 ODIs while 3 ODI ended up without any result. These numbers show that both the teams give equal competition to each other in ODI cricket. Despite being one of the favorites for the ODI World Cup trophy most of the time, they have never been able to lift the ICC ODI World Cup title.
Overall, Australia has appeared in 961 ODIs where they achieved victory in 582 matches and faced defeat in 336 matches while 2 matches were tied and 34 ended without any outcomes. On the other hand, South Africa has played 641 ODIs out of which they successfully achieved the victory in 392 and lost 223 ODIs where 6 matches were tied and 20 gave no result as of June 2022. In 2022, Australia appeared in 3 ODIs till June in which they won 1 out of 3, on the other hand, South Africa played 6 matches with 4 wins and 2 losses. So, it would be interesting to watch how South Africa will perform against Australia in Australia’s land next year in 2023.
