The cricket governing body of Australia has confirmed a tour to New Zealand to contest a 3 T20 international matches series in March 2022. New Zealand's calendar for the months of 2022 appears to be pretty full right now. New Zealand vs Australia T20I series 2022 will begin with the first T20 international at Sky Stadium, Wellington on 17 March 2022. The second T20I match will be held at the same venue on 18 March 2022, the series will conclude at McLean Park, Napier on 20 March 2022.
Australia may miss their star players David Warner, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc for their upcoming T20I series at New Zealand home ground. Aaron Finch will most probably lead the Australian side and New Zealand will enter into the competition under the leadership of Kane Williamson. On 14 November 2021, both teams faced each other in the final encounter of ICC Men’s T20I World Cup 2021 where Australia defeated New Zealand by 8 wickets and lifted the title.
Currently, New Zealand is sitting in the top 4 positions and Australia is at the number 6th position in the ICC T20 team ranking. Both teams have already won the hearts of many cricket lovers by their performance in the T20 World Cup 2021. The Australian team will be full of confidence when they visit New Zealand as they have already achieved a great win against New Zealand. The Australian skipper is at the number 4 position in the ICC T20I Player ranking but they will go without some of their highly experienced and match-winning players.
It is to be noted that the very first T20 international match in the history of the shortest format was played between Australia and New Zealand. As of November 2021, Australia has played 152 T20I matches out of which they got the victory in 78 T20I, lost 69 matches, 2 matches have been tied and 3 without any outcome. Their overall winning percentage in T20I is 53.02. Both the teams have faced each other in T20I on 14 occasions where Australia has defeated New Zealand 9 times with a winning percentage of 67.85. The numbers show that Australia has a good winning record against New Zealand and has dominated them in the shortest format of the game.
It would be interesting to watch how Australia will perform against New Zealand at their home ground in the absence of their top players in the month of March 2022.
