Mitchell Starc and David Warner take Australia home in the 1st ODI - The perfect way to start the world cup preparation is under way as Carlton Mid One-day international series began with Australia and England playing the 1st match at the Sydney Cricket ground. This is a series which is currently in talks as the three teams including India are to take part in this as they prepare for the major tournament in the year 2015. After winning the toss in the 1st match the English side decided to bat first.

Batting first the visiting team faced a huge mountain to climb as Ian Bell and James Taylor lost their wickets in the very 1st over. England was 2 down for a score of 0. Joe Root too didn’t help in the cause of scoring runs as he lost his wicket in the 4th over when the English side was able to score only 12 runs. Eoin Morgan the captain came into bat and was the lone one from the visiting side who was able to face the deliveries well and with his class played a good innings which helped his side. Morgan scored 121 runs and with this help the team was able to post a total of 234 runs on the board. Other than he only Moeen Ali and Jos Buttler was able to cross the 20 run mark. Mitchell Starc was the star bowler as he took 4 wickets which included the 2 in the first over.

Chasing the score of 234 David Warner provided the team a great stability as he scored 127 runs in the successful chase. The rest of the team contributed to the cause with Steven Smith being the highest who scored 37 runs in his innings. The Australians chased down the small score in just 40 overs. It was Warner who saved the day for the team. Has his wicket fallen it would have been a tough game for the home side to conquer. Chris Woakes took 4 wickets in the match but Mitchell Starc was named as man of the match for his outstanding bowling performance.
